Lake Life on the Whitefish Chain in Crosslake Minnesota

The Whitefish Chain provides an abundance of activities for all ages.  From finding the perfect crappie bay on Cross Lake to whipping tubes around Big Trout Lake.  Rip through the slalom ski course on Rush Lake or keep up with the Jones’ and ride the water wave with the latest lake craze, wake surfing.  If you’re ready to relax, find a beach on Island Lake or pull up to a sandbar on the south end of Cross Lake.  Before bedtime build a campfire and make s’mores while listening to the loons call.

Part of the Whitefish Chain experience is dining on the water. When the family builds up an appetite, no need to get off the lake for a meal.  Pull up to the docks at one, or hop around to all four of, the restaurant options on the chain.  At The Wharf, located on the channel between Cross Lake and Rush Lake, they say “Come as you are by Boat or by Car”.  Grab a famous bloody mary and watch the boat traffic pass by.  On the northern most point of Cross Lake you can overlook the land and water from high above at Moonlight Bay, “A place where good friends meet and old friend reunite”.  They now feature dockside service while social distancing on your boat.  South east on Cross Lake, just north of the Campgrounds, sits a favorite Minnesota restaurant chain Zorbaz on Cross, “Alwayz Great Memoriez at a great timez Mexican and Pizza Joint.”  A great way to wind down the day is the best sunset view on the chain at Manhattan Beach.  You can dine on their patio or sit next to the Tiki Bar on the beach and watch a beautiful day come to an end.  Saturdays and Sundays at Bertha Boatworks, located on Bertha Lake, a food truck and full bar feed the masses courtesy of the Old Milwaukee Club.  Sit at a picnic table by the lake or play a game of cornhole with friends.

There are a handful of options if your boat is running low on fuel and you need to get back to the other side of the chain.  Bertha Boatworks offers fuel service on the water if you’re on the west side of the chain.  The East side of the chain, on Cross Lake, has three options for refueling your boat.  The Wharf, located in the channel between Cross Lake and Rush Lake has dock attendants who will top off the tank for you.  Just across the lake in the channel between Cross Lake and Daggett Lake you can fill up at Bait Box Marina, located on the east side of County Road 66, the main drag that runs through the town of Crosslake.  Straight across the channel from there is another fuel pump at C&C Boatworks.  Feel free to dock at one of their slips and walk a quarter mile to grab a frozen treat from the Dairy Queen.

Some of the local resorts on the water provide their guests with boat rental options.  Otherwise there are a few places in town that can provide a vessel for your family to use.  Your Boat Club Crosslake and Al’s Marine both sit off of County Road 66 in Crosslake and offer daily boat rentals.  If you’re planning to spend multiple weekends on the lake, Your Boat Club also has rental options for the entire summer season.  Personal watercraft (jetski) rentals are available at Crosslake Rental and Leasing.  When there’s snow on the ground, Seaberg Motorsports offers snowmobile rentals.
